The Execution of George Stinney, Jr.
June 16, 2007 On this date, in 1944, the State of South Carolina executed George Stinney, Jr, a 14-year-old African American. Stinney is the youngest person executed in the United States in the 20th century. Stinney was convicted of murdering two white girls, Betty June Binnicker, age 11, and Mary Emma Thames, age 8, in Clarendon County.
